TRIED AND TESTED
Designed for Council Leaders, this programme supports and stretches leaders to ensure they have the capacity to successfully lead their communities and organisations. The programme seeks to create a safe space for council leaders in action learning sets to share their concerns and challenges; learn from one another; work together on addressing the big issues they face; and explore and test new ways of working and leading across their organisations, partnerships, and communities.

Module 2: Political Leadership: focuses on giving delegates greater ability to shape powerful and persuasive political visions of the future, and lead and manage complex change, as we learn to live with and beyond a pandemic.
Module 3: Leadership of Place -Focuses on enhancing delegates’ ability to communicate with and provide leadership across their local place and within partnerships to achieve growth, prosperity and tackle regional inequalities.

In a time defined by socio-economic challenges, climate change, the recovery from a global pandemic and a cost-of-living crisis, community leadership is essential. The resilient and sustainable communities of tomorrow call for a new approach to leadership today - one that is progressive, empowering, and centred around active engagement and co-production. This programme aims to equip councillors with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for a more progressive community leadership approach.
SSA worked with the LGA on the delivery of the new ‘Masterclasses in Partnership Working’ for political leaders, building their political and community leadership. Councillors attending the masterclass learnt what makes for successful partnerships and how to structure conversations that build trust, establish common purpose and address how leaders will work together in new ways to deliver thepartnership deal. Councillors were able to map the collaborative culture within their councils and practically identify ways by which they can help develop their councils ‘collaborative advantage’ and build a reputation for being the partner of choice.
