Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s trainees have taken part in a full week of prevent and protect training

This is the first time the Service has dedicated an entire week of the training course solely to prevent and protect activities including safe and well visits and role plays around issues and vulnerabilities in the community.

Group Manager Bob Preston said: “As the role of a firefighter is changing it is really important for us to adapt our training to educate the new trainees on the prevention activities that are at the core of what we do.

“For the first time we devoted a whole week to teaching the trainees how to carry out safe and well visits, what risks to look out for and how to deal with a variety of distressing situations they may come across. In particular the role plays around domestic violence, which were facilitated by volunteer staff, were highly educational and I think everyone benefited from these.
